ROP Fire Cadet Program
Application Process
Students must submit a completed application by July 31, 2009. Applicants who are chosen will move onto oral interview process. Candidates who successfully pass the oral board will receive acceptance, offering them a position as a cadet in the Fire Science ROP Program.
Student Requirements
- Must be 16 year old and at least a sophomore at Tioga High School
- Must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA
- Must be willing to comply with Fire Department Standards and ROP Program Code of Ethics
- Must be willing to dedicate time, effort, and enthusiasm to the program and GFD events.
All emergency gear is supplied by the Groveland Fire Department and will be issued to each Cadet. They are responsible for the care and maintenance of their equipment.
Schedule
Classes will be held during Tioga High School's sixth and seventh period on Tuesdays, Thursday, and Fridays for the entire academic year.
Field trips are planned and will be scheduled according to availability.
Curriculum Highlights
Students will receive college-level education and instruction in many aspects of the fire service including:
- First Responder
- Firefighter Essentials
- Haz-Mat
- Fire Control
- Fire Prevention
Students will encounter first hand the greatest elements of a Firefighter's job. Prepare yourself for an experience!
Special Opportunity
Graduating seniors with exceptional performance in the program will be given the opportunity to be sponsored by the Groveland Fire Department at the Tuolumne County Joint Basic Fire Academy.
History of the ROP Program
The Tioga High School Fire Science Program was established in 2003 under the guidance of Principal Sandy Bradley and Instructor Tom Atkins. Through training and dedication, the program has allowed for many students to proceed into a world a step above their peers.
Mission Statement
The Groveland Fire Department-Tioga High School ROP/Cadet Program is dedicated to the edification and affirmation of successful young adults through a commitment of time, life, and effort into the program; ensuring that our future leaders are: capable, self productive, efficient, professional, and pro-active. By doing so, the students shall create a secure platform of knowledge, skill, professionalism, and self-discipline, in order to become everything they were meant to be, and much more.
