JBFA

The Joint Basic Fire Academy for Tuolumne County is designed for new firefighters. Attendees must be sponsored by a Fire Department/Fire District within Tuolumne County. The Academy's primary site is 18440 Striker Court in Tuolumne, CA. The Academy is scheduled for January through June of each year. Curriculum focuses on first responder EMS, basic firefighting skills, firefighter safety, basic incident management systems, hazmat fires responder operations, confined space rescue awareness, and manipulative skills. Successful completion of written exams and manipulative performance exams required for graduation.

Fire Engineer Jon Rock was recognized for his work as Coordinator of the JBFA in 2009
This year the Groveland Fire Department was asked to host the JBFA for Tuolumne County. Our training officer Fire Engineer Jon Rock took the lead. Jon elevated the level of training provided by offering additional classes, and requiring all instructors to be certified by the state to approve the participant's Firefighter 1 certifications. This new requirement allowed the graduates to have the majority of their Firefighter I certification signed off through participation in the Academy. Jon worked closely with Dean Wimberly, CAL Fire Training Captain, to develop many new ideas for curriculum making the Academy very enjoyable for the firefighters this year. Jon and Dean approached this challenge with great enthusiasm, and spent an enormous amount of time outside the classroom making sure they were meeting the needs of the students in the Academy.
